AI-enabled software engineer  /  reliability

Clement
Chang.

An AI-enabled software engineer with deep expertise in reliability — five years keeping large systems inside their SLOs, on-call for the ones that matter. I build agent-first: the agents root-cause their own breakages, shepherd their own incidents, and write their own reverts.

how I work

I build agent-first.

Reliability used to be measured in how fast a human could be woken up. I think the better question is what should never need a page at all. So I design systems where agents hold the pager first: they investigate, they attribute, they revert, and they hand a human the one decision that actually needed judgment. Same SLOs — far fewer humans losing sleep over them.

  • 01 Systems that repair themselves. Automation that diagnoses its own failures and writes the fix, so a whole class of incident closes out with no engineer in the loop at all.
  • 02 Agents that own a workflow. Not a bot that fires an alert and stops — automation that carries work through its whole lifecycle: intake, triage, escalation, follow-through, closure.
  • 03 Harnesses, not prompts. The leverage is in the scaffolding around the model — the tools it can reach, the guardrails it runs inside, the evaluation loop that proves it worked. That is what turns a demo into something you can put an SLO on.
  • 04 Shipped before it was a trend. Running LLMs in production since 2023 — retrieval, self-hosted inference, agent scaffolding — back when the tooling was unsettled and there were no defaults to copy.

Work

Five years of keeping production quiet.

  1. Jan 2026 — Now Menlo Park, CA

    Meta current

Production Engineer — Recommendation System ML

  2. Oct 2021 — Nov 2025 Sunnyvale, CA

    Synopsys

DevOps / Infrastructure Engineer — R&D Engineer II

    • Maintained legacy Jenkins CI/CD on bare metal supporting hundreds of pipelines across three product families, meeting SLAs through daily and weekend on-call.
    • Re-designed and shipped a real-time infrastructure monitoring platform on InfluxDB, Python and Grafana — cutting incident alert latency to ~5 minutes behind one centralized hub.
    • Architected and optimized containerized CI/CD on GitLab and GitHub, onboarding two production modules onto a scalable infrastructure platform.
    • Wrote Python automation that caught hundreds of overlooked test cases.
    • Prototyped AI-powered internal ticketing tools (LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, vLLM) that automated triage and accelerated issue resolution.
    • Mentored junior engineers on Linux, system workflows and infrastructure debugging.

Audio Adjuster

Apache-2.0  ·  Swift

Per-app volume control for macOS: a menu-bar slider for every application currently making noise, built directly on Core Audio process taps. No Dock icon, no window — it lives in the menu bar and gets out of the way. Ad-hoc signed, installable in one curl, with CI on every commit.

  • core audio process taps
  • macOS 14.2+ / Swift 6.3
  • make app → signed bundle + checksum

StreamDeploy

Founder, infrastructure & full-stack  ·  Sep 2025 – Mar 2026  ·  San Francisco

An over-the-air deployment platform for robotics and IoT — think Vercel, but the target is a fleet of devices in the field. Infrastructure as code on Pulumi and GCP, a FastAPI control plane, Pub/Sub for rollout orchestration, BigQuery for telemetry, and a Go agent on the device itself. I ran pilots with R&D labs and small businesses, rolling out and monitoring across very different environments.

  • pulumi / GCP / Cloudflare CDN
  • fastapi control plane + Pub/Sub
  • go agent on-device OTA
  • bigquery fleet telemetry

Hospitality DApp

Infrastructure & blockchain engineer  ·  Mar – Jul 2023  ·  San Francisco

Infrastructure and frontend for an online hospitality booking DApp on Next.js, Solidity and Cloudflare CDN. I defined and integrated the Ethereum smart contracts behind its token-based transactions, and tuned the booking flow for performance. The token’s market cap passed $46,000 as of Sep 2024.

  • solidity smart contracts
  • next.js + Cloudflare CDN
  • token-based booking & payments

Real-time infra monitoring

A relogger: it picks up logs already being written across the fleet, re-emits them as structured metrics into InfluxDB, and surfaces them through Grafana. Nothing upstream had to be rewritten to be observable — and incident alert latency fell to roughly five minutes across three product families.

  • relogger logs → structured metrics
  • influxdb + Grafana + Python
  • hundreds of pipelines, one pane of glass

sd-mqtt

MIT  ·  Rust

A distributed MQTT broker — MQTT 3.1.1 and 5, clustering with replicated queues, rules and connectors, and an admin interface, all in one binary. MIT licensed throughout: no enterprise edition and no open-core line.

  • durable sessions follow a client across nodes
  • replicated queues survive a node going away
  • one static binary, broker on :1883

web3-login

published on npm  ·  MIT

A drop-in React component for web3 wallet connection — the boring, fiddly part of every DApp, packaged once and reused.

secret-manager

Apache-2.0  ·  Python

A lightweight, distributed secret manager you run in your own cloud — AWS, GCP, a VPS, Kubernetes, anywhere that runs a container. It brings its own database and issues its own tokens, so there is nothing to register and nothing external to connect.

  • ghcr.io one stateless container
  • secretmgr CLI under 10 MB, no runtime
  • scales to N replicas, no state in process memory
